Shamanism: Spiritual
Healing
Shamanism is a method of journeying to make the spirit whole. At the heart of shamanism and spiritual healing is self empowerment. For thousands of years, indigenous peoples have used non-technological methods of healing the body, mind and spirit. They practiced various forms of power restoration, extraction of intrusions and soul retrieval. Today we call those healers medicine men or shamans.
Spiritual healing is an inner exploration of trauma, inner holding patterns and old beliefs that hold us back from our full potential. With new beliefs and positive energy we can become empowered and fully alive. For the most part, shamanism focuses on power loss, spiritual intrusion and soul loss. With active, nonjudgmental listening each person finds, explores and speaks their truth on their journey to wholeness and empowerment.
Soul retrieval is necessary when a part of the soul leaves the body and does not return. Soul loss often occurs as a response to trauma such as accidents, a near death experience, abuse, severe illness or surgery. At such times the soul needs to be guided back to the body for the person to return to wholeness. Soul retrieval helps one to feel whole and empowered.
Soul sharing or the giving away of a part of the soul is common in our culture, especially with loved ones. The individual who has given their energy away doesn't have access to the energy and the person who has the energy can't use it. Returning shared soul energy and learning to not share soul energy is a part of the journey to wholeness and empowerment.
Power restoration is the retrieving of spirit helpers or power animals. According to shamanic tradition, each one of us comes into the world with a power animal or guardian spirit. As we age we forget about our animal spirit helper. Retrieving a power animal helps a person to be filled with their own power so that they are better able to resist illness and spiritual intrusion.
Intrusions are negative energy, negative thought forms that are stuck in the body that don't belong. Often, localized pain or illness is associated with an intrusion. Classic symptoms of an intrusion are reoccurring catastrophe or illness, addictions, apathy, autoimmune disorders or cancer. Removing intrusions allows energy to flow more freely through the body allowing one to feel more alive.
Divination journey work, a deepening of the healing experience, is learning a shamanic method of journeying outside of time and space into non-ordinary reality. It will also teach you how to formulate questions and retrieve information with the assistance of animal spirit helpers so that you can further explore and heal on your own.
Shamanic work may be incorporated as a mini session with massage or Reiki, but it is most effective as a separate healing session. Each person's journey to wholeness and empowerment is individual and may include massage, Reiki, power restoration, extraction of intrusions or soul retrieval.
